Thomas, I've owned HUMC since it was pink-sheeted. It's gone from 12.5 to 60 and down again. I hope it will go back to 60 again, and soon! Herewith a news article, though I don't believe it's why the stock has gone up so much:
Hummingbird Communications Ltd. November 18, 1999 (PR) Hummingbird & ResQNet.com(TM) Sign Licensing Agreement For Host Rejuvenation Technology
TORONTO, Nov. 18 /CNW-PRN/ - Hummingbird Communications Ltd. (NASDAQ: HUMC, TSE:HUM), a world-leading enterprise software company, announced today that it will license the patented ResQNet(TM) drag-and-drop host rejuvenation technology. The ResQNet functionality will be incorporated into the comprehensive line of host access products including HostExplorer Web - a Java- based, Web-to-Host solution - and HostExplorer, Hummingbird's traditional, Windows-based product.
The HostExplorer family of products provides quick and easy access to information residing on IBM mainframe, AS/400, Linux and UNIX systems and emulates TN3270, TN5250 and VT from any Windows or Web-based desktop. Now, with the ResQNet(TM) technology, the HostExplorer family will deliver a comprehensive e-business solution for rejuvenating mainframe and AS/400 green screens allowing users to employ a more familiar graphical user interface (GUI) look and feel, to quickly and cost-effectively access business-critical information.
The ResQNet(TM) technology provides "on-the-fly" graphical presentation of legacy host applications through intranets, extranets, and the Internet. Eliminating the need for programming or scripting, the ResQNet(TM) technology adds all of the traditional conveniences of the Windows environment - including mouse capability, customizable fonts and colors, macro buttons, drop down lists, valid value and help files, with the ability to export host data- to-desktop applications. The ResQNet(TM) technology extends the boundaries of host applications, delivering data for further reformatting and integration with other sources and returning or displaying the results. Advanced macros, comprehensive database access, and LDAP support further extends the capability of the ResQNet(TM) technology, enabling administrators to automate and simplify end-user access and operations.
"Hummingbird evaluated all of the alternatives for adding a more helpful interface to our connectivity solution and, it was clear that ResQNet's patented drag-and-drop technology was the easiest and most sophisticated solution on the market today." says Gary Tyreman, Senior Director Product Marketing for Connectivity at Hummingbird Communications Ltd. "The combined solution of the HostExplorer product family and the ResQNet(TM) technology provides a customizable solution with a straight forward GUI. This makes host applications easier to use and facilitates integration into the e-business market."
"This initiative brings our connectivity capabilities and market presence more firmly into focus for our upcoming release of a true Enterprise Information Portal (EIP). The goal of our EIP is to bring all needed information - whether structured, unstructured, business-critical information or even `raw' data origin -- to the user in a format that can be easily used for enterprise effectiveness and intelligent e-business. ResQnet's on-the-fly graphical technology will be a useful tool supporting Hummingbird's overall EIP differentiation," Tyreman added. Many analysts are forecasting growth in the host access market over the next few years, in expectation that the demand for portals and B2B e-business will fuel such growth.
"The selection of the ResQNet(TM) technology by such a recognized industry leader as Hummingbird confirms ResQNet's position as the standard for rejuvenating host applications," commented Jim Shapiro, Executive Vice President of ResQNet.com. "We are delighted to have this opportunity to work with Hummingbird. Their market leadership and worldwide distribution will dramatically enhance ResQNet's global presence."
