Hey Pistol ... I see that you're dealing with the TCI flavor of @Home ... which definitely has that terrible aftertaste that TCI customers know so well.

AT&T is still "digesting" the ex-TCI infrastructure and is still trying to absorb the horrifying fact of how badly set up TCI has been and how low service standards actually are. "Excellence" is not meaningful in the TCI culture, and "customer satisfaction" translates to "get their money" and "keep operating costs at a minimum".

As part of the takeover up here in Seattle, AT&T required TCI to build staff a new support facility and lots of new techs have been hired.

I believe that AT&T has the intention of offering quality support. I also see clearly that they are just learning how to actually do that.

Note that DSL service is not necessarily better. There are just as many DSL horror stories as cable. My DSL install was slick, has been problem free, and is backed by some of the sharpest internet guys in Seattle. If you choose to go with DSL ... go for the experience.

Best o' luck!

(this tier 1, tier 2 stuff really sucks ... bad psychology ... and specifically admits that customer satisfaction is secondary to profit margin)
