Why hasn't the price taken off?

My view is that the marketplace isn't proven yet, despite the rapidly improving price/performance points for biometric authentication, led by Identix.

I don't see a competitor out there with a better product. Most are in the press release business (did you FINX's last PR?). You could have made a case for Digital Persona having friendlier software until Identix released BioLogon 2.0 and today's announcements of BioSafe and BioShield. Certainly in hardware the MOT/IDX DFR-300 with a $60 price (heading to $50) leads the pack. And IDX has by far the best alliances, broadest adoption of its software, and shipped the most product.

However, even IDX's sales aren't enough to be taken seriously by major investors. That's why we are waiting for major end-user buying announcements, and that can't come until the DFR-300 is in production and shipping.

I doubt that legal uncertainties are slowing this market, although lack of uniform technical standards can't be helping too much, along with all the fly-by-nights clogging up bizwire. The technical fix is coming, but it isn't here quite yet. All the attention being paid to biometrics tells me that it will happen . . . we just have to still be well in the lead when it does.
