Nasdaq Shatters Share Volume Record Also Sets New Record for Transaction Volume

Washington, D.C.—The Nasdaq Stock Market® announced today that it had its b biggest share volume day ever, with a preliminary figure of 1,642,542,000 shares traded. Nasdaq's previous record was set yesterday, on November 16, with 1,495,994,800 shares changing hands. Six out of the ten highest share volume days in Nasdaq's history have been in November.
"In the month of November, we've experienced a 35 percent increase over the previous month in the total number of transactions," said Frank G. Zarb, Chairman and CEO, National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD®)—the parent of Nasdaq®. "This is equal to our average annual increase over each of the past five years."
