Rose - doesn't CDMA (specifically HDR and/or the WLL versions of CDMA2000) use something 'better' than QPSK for a modulation scheme, something that gives is considerably better than 2/bits/hz/sec? No, they use QPSK. To check the bits per hertz, you need only look at the burst data rate (2.4Mbps) vs bandwidth (1.25MHz). In an interference driven system (like cell systems) there isn't ordinarily a lot of point in higher modulation schemes since they require a higher Signal Power to Interfering Power ratio and/or better coding and in the end you get no benefit.
