I agree that those who think they are "better" people because they watch PBS or listen to NPR are being pretentious and probably have contempt for people who go in for other diversions. I think you misread the authenticity of folk culture. That is if we take culture to mean that which arises from the cult. People are joined together in worship, cultivation of crops, common laws, and cooperation in much else. I don't think our modern mercantile culture will easily eradicate the more ancient culture. I think the more it is foisted upon people who have an ancient tradition the more they will want to return to their heritage. Overall, if respect is kept, the mingling could be dynamic and interesting.
