I did not realize electron microprobe analysis (EMP) was also used for PGMs. I am quite familiar with its use in rare metals such as tantalum, cesium, etc. If interested, see the OGS report just released in the 'Research Reports' section of:

Dr Andy Tindle, The Open University, U.K. is an expert in EMP analysis. I've seen the visual results of this type of analysis - its quite impressive.
