AMD has a very substantial asset - its tax-loss carryforward. As with Ebeneezer Scrooge's partner Marley, they built this asset, link by link, with their accumulated losses. They are shielded from the kind of taxes that will cost Intel at least $2.5 Billion (with a B) this year. Makes AMD more attractive as a takeover candidate, unless they use it up with profits over the next few years. And then they would be attractive as a takeover candidate for a healthier reason - substantial profits.
