David and ALL, I got back from Las Vegas last night after visiting IDX at their little display room (not a ballroom, just a little section of a ballroom). My computer is in the repair shop and I'm typing on a little laptop so I will be brief in my comments until I get my own computer back.
First, Mike Sherwood from Oceanside, who was quoted in a news release or two, is the fellow I talked with last week - he is really pumped about IDX's technology and he can be a great spokesman for us.
Next, before the COMDEX show IDX sent out about 42,000 letters to IT types all over the country inviting them to come to the IDX exhibit for a demonstration and to receive a free $1,000 biometric package. They got somewhere between 1-2 percent response from those letters (452?) which was what they were expecting. I took a quick peek at the guest list and there were some prominent and not-so-prominent companies showing up for demonstrations - plenty of interest.
As for boxmakers, don't look for a Dell or Gateway in the near future - but we will have someone else, although I don't know who it will be.
At the exhibit were representatives from Key Tronic, MOT, Cherry and (I think) Infineon. BTW, the Infineon chip is really small - I was quite surprised. It is barely large enough to accommodate your little finger let alone your thumb.
And lastly, IDT was showing a working demonstration of their FACIAL RECOGNITION technology. It is ready for sale, although they aren't really pushing it yet. I asked why they were developing their own facial recognition rather than buying it from another company and they said because they wanted it to be their own (they want to own it) rather than sharing profits with someone else.
Perhaps when I get my own computer back I'll write more. In the meantime, hold on to your shares and buy more if you can (everyone knows I'm an IDX supporter).
