A Microsoft mention of biometrics:
"Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft [MSFT] unveiled its Smart Card Toolkit at Cartes '99 in Paris this week. The toolkit will allow users to more easily develop smart card applications using Windows for Smart Cards. Windows for Smart Cards, an operating system debuted earlier this year, allows companies to issue smart cards to their computer users. Using smart cards equipped with PIN numbers or biometric security features to log in to a corporate network reduces security risks and costs for computer support calls due to human error, Microsoft officials say." [EFT Report, November 18, 1999]
Rick: Regarding VRSN and ENTU, did IDX succeed in doing the relationship its way, is it still in a stand-off in negotiations, or have things fallen through? Obviously, we would like to work with both . . . just like we'll like to work with both MSFT and NOVL operating systems. I'm trying to imagine IDX telling MSFT "No, you'll be our partner." |
