The Isle of Crude saga continues.

Dear Valuepro,

Thank heaven. The severed anchor chain isn't ours.

It is the one holding Little Crude to the Isle of Crude.

Little Crude is a tiny satellite island on its own little tectonic plate. It is our penal colony for alcohol abusers to dry out. After all two bottles a day of ninety per cent proof is the about the right limit, wouldn't you agree?

It has now floated away with Goak on it. Maybe he'll find Laurasia and Gwondanaland.

When our pilot, Kamikaze Aviatrix, has sobered up I'll send him off to look for Little Crude and Goak who must be seeing pink elephants by now.

Tranquillity has returned to the Isle of Crude and we are all on our backs again.

The fug is unbelievably thick tonight. I can hardly see the ceiling.

Yabber, our phone operator who knows where the skeletons are buried, just a moment ago told us that he'd been on the Can'O'Phone to Johannesburg. "Big deal" I said pausing just long enough to suspend some more carbon in the air "You do that everyday. Haven't you got that love affair over there with Mrs Pless?"

Normally he is rather touchy on the subject but this time he didn't react. I immediately paid more attention "You know" he said and before I could say "If I know why bother to tell me" he said "Dr Jennings was seen in Jo'burg earlier this week and the papers have gone to the lady whose name I can't pronounce."

"Come on" I said "It's easy enough. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka."

The fug could now be cut with an assegai.

"You mean......" I said.

"Yes" he said.

"So once she has signed the papers and the lawyers have crossed the i's and dotted the t's......." I said.

"Yes" he said.

We all took another puff and raised our glasses.

"Your very good health, Dr Jennings, and thank you."

Crudestope.

P.S. How To Make A Can'O'Phone:

Cut soft drink can in half. Drill small hole in each half. Insert string through hole and knot. Give one half to A N Other. Stand apart and tightly stretch string. Speaker holds open side of can to mouth. Listener holds open side of can to ear.

We have millions of strings going to all over the world. We have yet to pay a phone bill.
