jon and all, Norton tip...And now for today's tip... REPLACE SCANDISK WITH DISK DOCTOR Although both originated with Symantec, Norton Disk Doctor is a more powerful disk scanner than ScanDisk, which comes with Windows 9.x. It's easy to switch to Disk Doctor.
Click the Options Button on the menu bar of the Norton SystemWorks 2000 Integrator and select Norton Utilities. On the General Settings tab, check the box next to Replace ScanDisk With Norton Disk Doctor and click the OK button.
A 32-bit application, unlike the 16-bit ScanDisk, Disk Doctor is better at finding lost file clusters and can find more errors in directory structures and long file names. It can fix more errant disk problems, either automatically or under your direction, and you can more easily configure it to perform just the operations you want. Finally, after diagnosing and repairing a disk, Norton Disk Doctor displays an easy-to-read report that lists the problems found, the problems fixed, and the areas of the disk that checked out fine. |
