Thanks, Debbie...great DD and very interesting.

American ginseng plays a complimentary role to Asian ginseng and both are very important to the Chinese in their centuries-old "Chinese traditional medicine".

They have traditional medical schools and hospitals as well as Western-style hospitals. I saw a video about it showing medical students in white lab coats and crowds of people in the traditional hospitals (would they be there if it didn't work, having the option of going to Western hospitals instead?).

Anyway, American ginseng, being "yin" to the Asian ginseng (which is "yang"), is important in their traditional medicine (for balance, which means health).

As American is cool, and does not give the energy boost that Asian does, it is not so popular in the West -- why 90% of it goes to Asia. Much of the ginseng you see here in stores is Asian (like Ginsana) - health food stores are more likely to have American. Both ginsengs have other health benefits.
