>>I would wait on your decision<<

I was being a little facetious. I'm a consumer advocate of sorts -- representing the interests of residential ratepayers before our state's public utility commission in rate matters. If our office opposes a capital expansion plan of one of the utilities and the ensuing rate impacts -- we are essentially David against Goliath -- we can win only with God's help. Our commission is very apt to "rubber stamp" approve
any capital project proposed by any of the utilities.

The way it's supposed to work is the utlitities are supposed to have discretion over their management decisions and the Commission over rates, financing, franchise areas, etc. It's not a bad model and could work well if the Commissioners were dilgent folks, but alas, they tend to run away from responsibility any chance they get.

We have a water utility whose plant flooded once -- in what was called a 500 yr flood. The plant is old but very functional. The water utlity is wanting to use this as an excuse to abandon the plant and build a new $80M dollar facility. This would more than double the water rates of the town.

It's like tax dollars, it's very easy to desire to build the best instead of what's necessary when you're spending someone elses money.
Apologies to others for getting off the subject.

By God's grace we win a few of the battles that we fight here. Before working here Shalom I thought very poorly of people who worked in government, period. God has revealed to me what a terrible attitude that was. There are those who are trying to be responsive to needs and who really care and aren't just building empires or feeding their own egos.

As it says in Timothy we really need to pray for our leaders. Many looking at our current national leadership see a lot of corruption -- and there is, but there are also those who are standing up for what's right. May God bless them. God's mercy continues upon our country and I am thankful for it.

Although I don't want to stay in my current position for a long time I am convinced that there are eternal benefits to all work if done in the proper spirit -- in His service. As it says in Colossians:

Whatever you do in word or deed do all in the name of Lord Jesus.

This is both a motivation and a test.

Jesus is the motivation because we don't work for ourselves or a temporary benefit or a pat on the back, we are servants of the one through whom the whole universe was made -- there's no greater, more patient, more kind and gentle boss anywhere.

This is also a test. For whether any act could or should be performed can be judged on this basis -- is this something my Master would desire and call a good work?

Praise God Shalom, Jesus is loving us today
Barry
