As far as tools go, my company developed and maintains tools and compilers for the microprocessor part of Hitachi. The tools are typically given away. They facilitate and enable the real money maker: selling chips!

The tool market is dead in the Client Server arena. Hear anything much about Powerbuilder lately?

I'm personally hoping that Centura does work out some sort of deal with RHAT to bundle their db's with Linux. As a coup, with a little (maybe a lot) work on Team Developer, they could have a development tool for Linux. Then they could give it away virtually free bundled with Linux.

I know one of Centura's customers (one of the big studios) just recently (before the CNTR spike), decided to drop CTD in favor of Powerbuilder, after 6 years of using CTD. Talk about stupid. The reason they did it is because of the lack of developers for CTD.

Releasing the source to CTD would be a coup if it was done right! Centura still makes cash on the support and consulting side, just like RHAT! Release the source code -- see what that does for CTD programmers.

Decided to ramble a bit -- just like the ol days when nobody read this forum except poor old CNTR loosers :)
