Mediator appointed in MS antitrust case zdnet.com

The judge in the Microsoft antitrust trial has appointed a federal mediator in a last-minute bid to get the two sides to settle.

Richard Posner, the Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for Seventh Circuit in Chicago, is now the man in the eye of the storm.

During a meeting Thursday in his chambers, Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson, who has presided over the case, decided to make the appointment, which was announced Friday afternoon.

Sheesh, I guess there really was some drama in yesterday's meeting. For others watching, Posner is a beacon of the dreaded "Chicago School" economics and law synthesis on the federal bench. Presumably, not a big advocate of antitrust enforcement, but on the other hand, Lawrence Lessig clerked for him, so who knows?

Cheers, Dan.
