Re:>>someone made the observation that Y2K could not be much of a
threat because the market had already discounted it.<<
It is real simple... this nation runs on money and greed and everyone is staying in the market and afraid to sell because they might not get that last buck... many who sold have rushed back in afraid they were wrong and might miss a buck.... etc. etc. etc.
Re: >>Smart computer people are mostly pretty sanguine about Y2K.<<
I know some of these so called "smart" people who think "because my company or myself in my area have it fixed or think we have it fixed that Y2K is fixed everywhere" Many of these so called "smart" people when I have explained the various domino and economic possibilities from the global economy we have brought on ourselves in last 30 years then make comments like--- " I hadn't really thought of it that way" or I guess it is " possible" but I can't "believe" it will happen ... etc. etc. etc.
Plus do not discount the psychological effect of media power and daily piling on of the self reporting Y2K fixed nonsense. The media convinced the American people not to impeach clinton they can sure as heck convince them Y2K is fixed.
Like I have said many times you risk NOTHING by making calm, modest preparations to the best of your budget... the only people risking anything are those who do NOTHING.
