"...Despite how deficient many Microsoft products may seem to you right now, the reality is that at any given point in time over the last 10 years, they've more often than not been the best products in their categories. And that wasn't the result of immoral backstabbing by Microsoft. About half of that success was due to a lot of blood, sweat and tears on the part of Microsoft's leadership and many software developers. But the other half is what's really the hardest thing about this whole deal. Microsoft competitors were sometimes out to lunch, so much so at times that in retrospect, it's hard to believe. But I was there, reviewing their products, interviewing their product managers, listening to their marketing spiels. And it's true...."
