What surprises me is that the Hi Tech airplanes in use in today's world have such a LOW TECH means of recording the cockpit & it's surroundings!

From listening to such garbage, a simple tape recorder & microphone would produce MUCH BETTER results than what is currently being obtained.

It should not take a team of audio experts to play & replay a recording to decifer what has happened! A plain & simple high quality recording system is all that is needed.

Couldn't we have a real State of the Art means of recording this vital information?

No brainer!

YES!

Why don't we have it?

Why don't we have it in STEREO?!

Is this important or not...?

The cost, I'm sure, would be pennies compared to the total.

Why can't it happen?

With today's technology, we could have the last hr. of the cockpit using Flash Memory (in a steel case 4" x 4" x 1")!

Why don't we just DO IT?

I have wondered about this for years & it's still in the dark ages!

Joe

ps: With a little more ingenuity, we could transmit the data to a nearby satellite(s) and record the whole flight!
