Maurice,

When you get challenged on your own thread you sneak over here and start defending $ill, as if he needs it.

>>I don't know about Prozac, but the similarities between Qualcomm and Microsoft seem similar to me.<<

Microsoft has 90% of the PC OS market. Qualcomm has less than 20% of the wireless air interface market. The only way to compare the two is to compare what microsoft has done to what Qualcomm might do.

Suppose HDR becomes the wireless data standard in the US and the only competition is GPRS which has 20% of the market. Wireless phone manufacturers are making phones that support HDR and a lessor number supporting GPRS, but both using WAP as the application protocol. The typical microsoft business plan would be to create their own application protocol "MAP" ( microsoft application protocol) and then upgrade (modify) HDR to make it work better with MAP than with WAP.

The Qualcomm (Irwin Jacobs) business plan is to partner with all that will utilize and promote QCOMs IPR. QCOM vigorously defends it's IPR demanding fair compensation from all that use it. Qualcomm does not use its dominate position to control or consume their partners.

Bill Gates is no Erwin Jacobs. Thank God!

Pete
