The OS area of Msft has been running a monopoly since Win 3.1. The way it should work is that Bill Gates continues to own his application
side, such as Office 2000, Visual BASIC etc, and let someone, public in general, owns a separate company that runs the OS side. Companies such as Compaq, IBM, there is NO one person owns and dominates the company, so if the CEO is screws, the board replaces him with a new one. You can't say the same thing with Msft, can you?

Think about it, if there is a separate company that runs the OS side, it will be fair when this new company releases its next generation of OS, that every software developer will be benefit from.

By the way, I don't know about your phone bill, but since de-regulation of long distance phone bill, I have the option to choose the long distance phone company I wanted, my phone bill significantly reduces.
As an example on the hardware side, when Intel designs its new RAMbus technology, they invites industry leaders from S/W and H/W side to jump in and expresses their good ideas, as at the end, they wanted the
new technology to benefit everyone, and all big players are happy so that these big players can co-develop their S/W and/or H/W to WORK TOGETHER with Intel's new RAMbus tech.

With Msft, however, they develop a the next ver. of Windows 2000, make sure their own software such as Office 2000 works hand in hand with it, and make sure noone else get the advantage. Look back at Win 95 and Office 95, hey, they were released exactly on the same date on Aug 19, 1995. If msft did what Intel did (as above), Corel and Lotus would have release their Suite the same date. But Corel can't release their Wordperfect suite until a year later. Can you guess why?

That's what monopoly does to the pubic.
