Well, the un-needed new equipment is working great! UPS guy finally knocked loud enough for me to hear him on the third attempt. After about 100 reboots and an equal number of experimental configurations and a few calls to various tech-supports -- I am networked!

Got both computers to see each other and have 1 computer using the cable modem (other computer won't do it -- probably need sygate or whatever). Had to plug the cable from the modem into the up-link hole of the switch.

Installed TCP/IP and NetBUI on both computers. I take it that TCP/IP is for the cable and NetBUI is for the peer-to-peer stuff.

Seeing and transferring files between computers seems VERY FAST! Will have to do some time-trials.
