results from field survey of the three biggest local tv stores.

circuit city
120 tvs
total of 7 tvs with guide plus
2-ge, 4-proscan, 1-rca.
i asked the salesman what this epg was all about. he said that he is the head tv salesman and i was the first person to ask about it. he explained it to me satisfactorly.
but definitely did not try to use it as a selling feature.
kept pushing the sony flat screen.

topps
110 tvs
9 with guide plus all either rca or proscan
two salesman didn't know what an epg was.
left quickly.

pc richards
200 tvs
15 with guide plus all proscan, rca, ge.
saw 6 mitsubishi's with tv guide plus
salesman new about epg but actually said it was no big deal, that it's basically what you get on your basic cable screen.
again definitely not using it as a selling feature.
asked another customer if he knew what the epg was and he answered no. when the salesman actually showed us one, the other customer was uninterested and the salesman quickly moved on to the hitachi ultravision.

conclusion:
with only 10% of tvs(non under $200) having guide plus and most customers and salesmen not knowing what it is, the tornado has most assuredly not started yet. i would say that there are only a few dark clouds at this time. hopefully the christmas rush will clear out alot of current floor stock and that the new deliveries will have a higher percentage of guide equipped units.
once i can walk into a store and count better then 50% of tvs with guides, then i will feel the tornado starting.
as for now our baby gorilla can't handle solid foods and still needs to be in pampers.

ps: does anyone know if sony and hitachi are due out with guide plus units.
