Mr. Hayer:

that is an interesting article on MSFT's view of Corel, Java and NC.

I wonder why MSFT doesn't make a quick response to Corel by simply buying Applix, a company that already has a Java Suite at market. with the way APLX's stock has crashed, the purchase price would probably be much more cost effective than developing an in-house suite of their own.

In addition to getting Applix's Java technology--which I am sure MSFT's engineers could enhance or alter to their liking, they would have the added benefit of aquiring Applix's value-added real-time capabilities to Excel. MSFT could perhaps gradually withdraw Applix's realtime programs from the UNIX market in favor of NT.

I think that Applix's main problem is a lack of marketing muscle, a problem that MSFT certainly doesn't suffer from.

anyway, in whatever way, a "me-too" response from MSFT is certainly a concern for COSFF. I do most certainly admire Mr. Cowpland's David vs. Goliath challenge to Mr. Gates, and I am looking at the stock carefully.

best regards.
