I just checked all my trades so far this month, and all my
trades for a 1000shares or less are charged 30.00 and good
execution to boot. That is only for PCQuote customers.
If you trade using their WEB trading the 70.00 probably applies.

Wayne , the correct answer to the 1000 shares at 70.00 dollars = $70000 and is 40.00 in commissions on Webpro(which is the PCquote trading system through Schwab)

$0-39999 is $30 per buy and sell
$40,000-99999 is $40 per buy and sell
$100000 - ? $75 per buy and sell

I am currently using the regular Web based trading with Schwab (not Pcquotes)and have found the execution to be very fast so far. None of the other discount brokerages come close in terms of execution. You pay more for commissions but if you trade alot you can get the webpro rates as well.

I rate Schwab the highest based on my experiences so far.
I have been with Royal , Scotia and Schwab . Each account has had at least 6 months trail with telephone and web trading. I would rank the banks a 3 in terms of service and execution and rank Schwab and 8 (nobody is perfect :0) )
Things could always be better and I have yet to find the perfect 10. Schwab has met with all my needs and serviced all my problems in a quick and timely manner.

After this post you are probably wondering wether or not I am getting paid to write this drible , and I will respond with a resounding "NO". When I was looking for a new brokerage I appreaciated that someone had took the time to write of his experiences with different brokers and that led me to Schwab . I have never regreted the decision I took .

I hope this helps ,
Vitalsigns

P.S By the way Swami , i would like to know what happened with Schwab lately that has turned you off them . You can Pm me if you want.

EDIT : Duane , all my trades with schwab are executed maximum 1 minute so far to date . The actual average is less than 30 seconds if you can believe that :0)
I also use CSW trades list to confirm my trades because they are the quickest and I also like to know who is buying and selling other than myself anyways.
