There must be some news that we do not know yet.

This stock move is not b/c of some great fundamental improvement in 3Com (non-Palm) business. The telling story is volume 53M shares in two days and the magnitude of the change (almost $10 in 5days or ~30%). People are buying frantically for some reason and its not necessarily to get in to the PALM IPO (at least under its current terms).

We are seeing the affects of takeover rumors (or some other event), combined with the fact there are few sellers out there b/c of the potential of the Palm IPO.

Also, an acquisition of 3COM does not mean that PALM will not IPO (or spin-off). Perhaps this might be the best scenario anyway. Perhaps an acquisition of the non-Palm parts of 3Com would lead to a direct spin-off of the PALM rather than flawed plan currently in place -- I'd rather own PALM shares from the first day of IPO (or spin-off) vs. the plan where COMS holders have to wait.

I'm sure we'll know the reason for move very soon.

Tim
