Hi James, with all the hype here it is easy to get the facts confused with innuendo. Amati is probably not the answer to all the world's problems. ;o) ADSL distance limitations are more a factor of the copper attenuation and wire diameter (gauge) than the line code, CAP or DMT.
From Amati's page: ADSL, using DMT, can provide Internet-ready service to subscribers up to 18000 feet from a central node, with no additional installation support. The Overture 8 modem can adapt for service over longer subscriber lines providing connections at rates of 1.5 Mbps/160 Kbps up to 18000 ft.
Remember that 5,280 ft equals 1 mile, so 18,000 ft equals 3.4 miles. ADSL at 1.5Mbps, DMT or CAP, dies out after 3 miles. It is important to understand that at 6Mbps, ADSL will not be available at distances beyond 9,000 to 12,000 ft (1.7 to 2.3 miles), without "repeaters" or DLCs. As speed increases the distance decreases inversely.
