Win2000 will run 95/98/NT programs

Because Win NT doesn't allow direct access to hardware and can not run Direct X, games that need high speed graphics will not run on Win NT. As a consequence many games that will run on Win 98 will not run on Win NT. What is the status of Direct X and Win 2000? What did Microsoft do to allow Direct X to run on Win 2000? Will all of the games that wouldn't run on Win NT run on WIN 2000?
