Lucent's WaveStar LambdaRouter is a neat bit of technology (if it proves reliable) but hardly changes the need for most of the products built by Cisco. As the name implies, it is simply a device for switching light wavelengths. It doesn't alter the need for routers and switches to read and direct the information contained in digital form in those wavelengths. We are still very far away from all optical networking. Translation from photons to electrons and vice versa will be with us for decades.
