The gaming sites that I am aware of require that programs and data files be run on each person's PC. The internet is only used for communication between the gamers.

Yes, absolutely JAVA-based games will appear. However, it will require a lot of local cache/RAM for the programs/data files or a high-speed connection to the server. Look at the games you currently own...

How much RAM/disk space do they require?
How would they run on a single-speed CDROM drive (which is MUCH faster than a 56Kbs modem)

Either way you have problems. If you add enough RAM, then you lose the price advantage of a NC over a PC.

OK, so you add a local file server (PC) to eliminate bandwidth issues. We just went full circle. You bought a PC, like you should have in the first place.

I don't know anything about Sony/Nintendo's JAVA-based offerings.
