Goutama,

We probably get the same national ads here in D.C. because my observations for Office Depot, Best Buy, and Circuit City are similar. The "centerfold" of the Best Buy ad was a very aggressive Compaq ad with a ring of 6 AMD systems and one celeron. It was the most AMD systems I can remember seeing since this time last year when the k6-2 was everywhere.

Just to do some retail DD, I braved the mall and went to Best Buy today. The place was actually not that crowded, but was stacked floor to ceiling with merchandise. They seem to plan on selling a lot of DVD players this holiday, because they were everywhere.

The HP with the cumine 733 was actually in stock and on the shelf. Consistent with the newspaper ad, it contained SDRAM. I counted 11 boxes on the shelf above plus the display unit. I was not able to find anyone to help me, so I didn't ask about sales. The only other Cumine I noticed was a 667mhz box (I think it was a HP).

Athlons were plentiful, in all speeds. Also, plenty of stock on the shelves. As I mentioned, the store must have recently restocked, because the aisles were full of boxes.

I can't remember seeing so much merchandise everywhere (also went to Macy's) and the retailers must be planning a blow-out holiday season.
