Thanks for the link Ruffian. That was a good article.
As I was reading it I had one of those "outside the box" ideas that you always hear about. How does this sound.

Your driving to work listening to the digital MP3 music you selected coming through your CDMA equipped car radio. Its exactly the type of music or news or talk radio that you like because you selected it the same way you use to select FM radio stations with a push button. At then end of the last song section where you expect to here an advertisement you are not disappointed to hear one start. This one is a little different though.

?Mr. Ruffian we see by accessing your BMW engine computer that you are nearing your recommended 30,000 mile checkup and as luck would have it we also see, by looking at your car GPS, that you are approaching a BMW dealer about two blocks on your right. Would you like to schedule an appointment??. How would that be for directed advertising? Would a BMW dealer want to buy that capability? You bet.

The technology is in place to do this now and a CDMA link to a car radio would be an important part of it. The point is that wireless technology is not always voice. I think the computer to machine link is as important and only waiting to be exploited. Other ideas like Coke machines that order a refill when they are getting low or traffic lights that complain when one of there lamps go out will be a huge market.

Many applications need wireless not because they are moving but because they don?t need the expense of a full time wire line connection - like the Coke machines. Others need wireless because they are moving but not necessarily for voice transmission - like the radio in your new BMW.

The mind boggles.
