If Intel got 1st silicon on Wilamette before January, why would they tell anyone?

On the Athlon version 2: is there any good reason that AMD did NOT put the L2 on-chip in the aluminum 0.18 Athlons? Is there a chance that we will see aluminum Athlons with on-chip L2 or 256K L1 before we see copper-interconnect Athlons?
