Let me weigh in with what is sure to annoy everyone who is long.

Bay Networks has made a fine comeback from real danger. They have invested in some strong contenders for future growth (cable modems, switching routers, switching and small routers), they have even begun to clean up their balance sheet. But listen to the conference call replay. Does upper management inspire confidence? Have they been able to adequately explain their plans for the future? Have they done more than just keep pace with the marketplace? Or are they leading in any material way?

Also, the real growth in the networking marketplace the next year is in the ISP/infrastructure provider space and they are lacking some key "network core" components.

Like I said before, Bay will continue to be a "player" in the marketplace. They might even hit the 20s when ISP/infrastructure buying picks up again. But are they going to surprise all of us with a major turnaround like 3Com did years ago?

Well, you know what I think...
