"IS wait a second What is your opinion on the Mass Index as a more sensitive thermometer on trend change than ADX. But on the LONGER term chart (3 months).. I haven't used Mass Index on short term chart."

Jenna:

I read over the article on the usage of Mass Index and Money Flow together in the November 1999 issue of Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities and then duplicated it on my TradeStation.

In the chart below, I have recreated the example of DELL that they used in the article and it would seem to me that the April and June 1998 examples of buy signals were carefully chosen ones, IMHO, since the signals subsequent to those two weren't very good. The April and June signals would have been simple for anyone without even an indicator to trade since they were a breakout from a range, and then pulled back to confirm that previous resistance had become support, in other words, bull flags...and somehow, from what I could understand, the Mass Index/Money Flow combo did not give a buy signal for the parabolic move up from $35 to $55 vs. ADX which confirmed that there was a large sideways range from July to December 1998 and went to very low levels before the move up. I think all these indicators cannot be used as a trigger point for trades per se and that it must be used only as a guideline, in support of other, more defined signals, such as classic patterns or bar combinations.
