The Wall Street Week guest recommended REITs. Allen Reed, CEO, GM Investment Company said that they were buying REITs as their favorite equity. He named Equity Residential and Equity Office. Their mix is 60% equities to 40% fixed income. It wasn't clear to me which bin REITs fit in. He said bonds were a better value than stocks right now. He suggested the yield on Treasurys may trend up a bit for the year but not above 6.5%. He also said they own timberland and O&G and they like Japan which he suggests will be the next big bull market, ..."market of the new millenium." So, does that mean he doesn't think Japan will take off until 2001 when the 3rd millenium begins? He also said small caps are due to come back soon as the big cap leaders take a rest. Good to see an institutional money manager recommend REITs, now if he'd just buy a few more shares and turn reverse this trend.
