SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 1997--Broadening its
position in the Windows modem market, Global Village Communication, Inc.
(NASDAQ:GVIL) today announced two new 56(a) Kbps fax/modems based on
genuine x2 technology priced up to $50 below comparable U.S. Robotics x2 modems.

The new TelePort 56 internal ISA and external x2 fax/modems for Windows users are
expected to be available in early May through leading retail stores and catalog outlets
in the United States and Canada. Estimated street prices start at $159 (U.S.)

"By providing a complete, out-of-the-box solution at a very competitive price,
Windows users can get the fastest modem technology available from a company
known for its high quality, easy to use products," said Neil Selvin, president and chief
executive officer of Global Village.

Maximum Performance and Upgradability

The TelePort 56 x2 products use the latest software upgradable x2 DSP from Texas
Instruments to ensure maximum x2 performance and upgradability in the future. Global
Village designed the TelePort 56 modems to include a 4 megabit Flash ROM to ensure
that customers will have the greatest opportunity to upgrade to future enhancements in
the technology. Many competitive products only include a 2 megabit Flash ROM.

Special Features

TelePort 56 fax/modems support Plug & Play for easy installation and include an
Installation Helper for quick set-up. For users with special telephony services, the
modem supports Caller ID and Distinctive Ring.

Unlike other modem manufacturers, Global Village includes a serial cable at no extra
cost and includes phone line surge protection for the external TelePort 56 modem.

TelePort 56 software provides complete solution

TelePort 56 products include the easy-to-use fax software and file transfer capabilities
that customers have come to expect from Global Village. Named Editor's Choice by
PC Magazine, the award-winning FaxWorks software is an integrated fax and data
application that provides seamless integration of fax and data capabilities. FaxWorks
lets you fax from any application, mark up and draw on your faxes, schedule faxes for
immediate or future delivery, and send broadcast faxes.

It includes a unified fax and data phone book so that contact information is kept in a
single, easy-to-access location. With a simple drag and drop, users can transfer files
easily between PCs and Macintosh computers with GlobalTransfer Lite which is also
included with TelePort 56 for Windows.

Technical Specifications

The TelePort 56 family of products support Internet download speeds up to 56 Kbps.
They also support standard data modem transmission speeds of 33.6 Kbps and are
compatible with prior modem standards. They support fax speeds of up to 14.4 Kbps
and are Group 3 compatible. Global Village modems come standard with a 5-year
repair/replace warranty. TelePort 56 fax/modems are compatible with Windows 3.x,
Windows 95 and Windows NT.

Why buy a 56 K modem today?

56 K technology represents the biggest modem performance improvement ever, with
typical connection speed improvements of 18,000 - 24,000 bps over V.34 modems.
Users with a large appetite for the Internet will appreciate the faster speed available for
downloading files and data.

More than one hundred Internet service providers have deployed x2 in 500 U.S. and
Canadian cities, and nationwide via special 800 numbers, for widespread accessibility
to x2 connections. (For a list of ISPs providing support for x2, visit the Global Village
56 K web site at www.56kmodems.com or www.globalvillage.com/56k/ .)
