SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 1997--Broadening its position in the Windows modem market, Global Village Communication, Inc. (NASDAQ:GVIL) today announced two new 56(a) Kbps fax/modems based on genuine x2 technology priced up to $50 below comparable U.S. Robotics x2 modems.
The new TelePort 56 internal ISA and external x2 fax/modems for Windows users are expected to be available in early May through leading retail stores and catalog outlets in the United States and Canada. Estimated street prices start at $159 (U.S.)

Maximum Performance and Upgradability
The TelePort 56 x2 products use the latest software upgradable x2 DSP from Texas Instruments to ensure maximum x2 performance and upgradability in the future. Global Village designed the TelePort 56 modems to include a 4 megabit Flash ROM to ensure that customers will have the greatest opportunity to upgrade to future enhancements in the technology. Many competitive products only include a 2 megabit Flash ROM.
Special Features
TelePort 56 fax/modems support Plug & Play for easy installation and include an Installation Helper for quick set-up. For users with special telephony services, the modem supports Caller ID and Distinctive Ring.
Unlike other modem manufacturers, Global Village includes a serial cable at no extra cost and includes phone line surge protection for the external TelePort 56 modem.

The TelePort 56 family of products support Internet download speeds up to 56 Kbps. Global Village modems come standard with a 5-year repair/replace warranty. TelePort 56 fax/modems are compatible with Windows 3.x, Windows 95 and Windows NT.
