Virata(R) Helium(TM) Processor Selected by
Netopia for R7200 SDSL Router

Provides Unparalleled Performance, Advanced ATM Capabilities

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Integrated semiconductor and software supplier Virata© (Nasdaq:
VRTA - news) today announced that Netopia, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTPA - news), a market leader in providing DSL
Internet equipment to small and medium-size businesses, has selected the Virata Helium(TM) chip and is
deploying it in its ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode)-based SDSL (Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line) router,
the Netopia R7200.

``The Virata Helium Chip is an integral component of Netopia's R7200 router, providing unparalleled performance
and ATM capabilities,' said Michael Trupiano, senior vice president and general manager, Netopia Internet
Equipment Division. ``Moreover, Virata's Customer Services and Solutions Group (CSS) was an invaluable resource
when we were designing and developing the R7200.'

The new router incorporates Virata's ATM networking software stack. The implementation also opens the way for
future development of Voice over DSL (VoDSL) services.

``The Netopia design win once again validates Virata's strategy of pairing integrated software on silicon (ISOS)
solutions with system-design value-added services,' said Virata's Vice President for Marketing, Duncan
Greatwood. ``Virata's contribution to the new SDSL router helps Netopia widen its assault on the booming market
for small business access to the Internet.'
