I am neither a qualified critic nor a connoisseur of science fiction prose, but I did think your story was quite funny and well-written. We do tend to make up pejorative nicknames for the "enemy," so I wasn't too upset by pussy, although I admit it was not immediately clear that an octopus was the object of scorn when the word first popped up.
