Michael: You are correct, costs will be brought down, as has happened in many other technologies. But an engine is not a semiconductor, and costs don't disappear just because volume is up. Some costs, such as the platinum needed as a catalyst, will actually go up with volume, as demand runs ahead of supply.

Nevertheless, with enough money and time, it is a solvable problem. But not an easy one - the guy from D-B said that costs will have to come down by a factor of 100, and that is why it will take at least eight years for a fuel cell powered car to be introduced.

Time is on your side, Michael, so you shouldn't bother your little mind over any questions I raise. Think of it this way - every day is one more day closer to when D-B will have something on the market. Two whole days have gone by since the big announcement, so that means that you only have 7.995 more years to wait.
