David,
Thanks for your posts, they provide an interesting perspective, especially for the "non-technical" among us. I do have a few questions though -

"It is no doubt an investment that will show the greatest returns in a few years when they (IBM) have more resellers than the competition"

Didn't you point out in a previous post that Bill Gates slammed Novell for having too many resellers? Which is better, too many or a few. For that matter why would Novell need VARs in another year. Sell a license and send the lastest rev to a current customer over the phone, or at worst, mail a CD or two. There is an army of CNAs and CNEs out there who would have no trouble doing the upgrade without the alleged "help" of a VAR.

Regarding the CNA/CNE, I was in Pinehurst on a weekend outing 3 weeks ago and heard 3 radio commercials each day from two Raleigh, NC stations advertising for CNAs/CNEs for Research Triangle software developers. I thought this was very interesting. Things like this, plus the posts of Eric Hall, keep me from getting too down on Novell right now. Closer to home, we use Novell but our Network Administrator has built an NT test bed, he says the domain naming system on NT is a nightmare.
