Jack.

First, Bill G. did slam novell for having too many resellers. Point being that margin erosion left the VARs with typical sub-10% margin on the software. This was when he was recruiting VARs for NT.

Nothing has changed since, as Novell product margin is still sub-10% (money in services not off-the-shelf software).

Does NOVL have too many or too few? Today, they have too many to support the end-user demand (that is why they beefed up the reseller requirements - forced the dead weight out). That wasn't the case 7-8 years ago. But is now. Also many bids that I have seen over the years specify EITHER Netware or WindowsNT server. Didn't see that in '95. Used to be any network operating system was fine, as long as it was Netware.

Up until about '94, having a CNA/CNE was a ticket to a job in the $35-$45K in Dallas. Now it is worth about $29-$35K. Ought to tell you something.

What are they paying in Raleigh?
