John, recently a small semi tool company out of Chatsworth, called Trikon (formerly known as Plasma and Material) announced a new tool for CVD. They call it Flowfill....this new technology is considered to be a breakthru in lowering the Dielectric constant between the layers of the chip. From what I understand, the flowfill process lowers the dielectric to approximately 2 from the current 3.2.

The way this technology was presented...it stated that it could speed up logic chips by 50 to 100%. If this is true....it would give any logic company a major advantage if they used the flowfill technology.

Trikon stated on their homepage....."It is widely considered necessary to have "low-k" Dielectrics below 3.0 for next generation advanced logic devices. Trikon's internal low-k results were verified with standard Flowfill systems located at two additional customers. After the Company's recent announcement of Flowfill's low-k results, Trikon has begun working with virtually every major logic manufacture. The first Flowfill low-k system has already been purchased, and expected to ship in the second quarter of 1997."

My question to you is....is INTC working with Trikon and what stage of testing is INTC in if they are looking at it.
