Maher: With respect to the money spent on the contest...In addition to publicity, Corel has always benefitted from users "pushing the envelope" with Draw in order to win the contest. From what I understand, their technical help service receives thousands of tips and suggestions to improve the next release of the product from these loyal, enthusiastic power users.

Also, what does it say for their worldwide reputation if all of a sudden they cancel the contest, citing financial constraints. Not exactly goodwill or good publicity. If they plan to be back in the black on a long term basis, then the $3 mil is peanuts.

All in all, money well spent I'd say to stay on top of the graphics market.
