Paper Man,

Thanks for the response. I posed the question of MDTK to a friend in the industry and this was his response...

There are three types of companies going after the physician practice
management/IT market.

1) e-MedSoft appears to be in the category of having good IT resources
and technologies. Microsoft also has some ventures in this category. OACIS is another company in this group.

2) Another category, with companies like MedicaLogic have expertise in
the clinical and QA side of things. What the IT ultimately is promising is a better clinical management tool to lower costs and improve patient care. These companies have invested heavily in medical artificial intelligence, but their IT savvy needs to improve for broad base use.

3) The last set of players are those that are entirely web-based, but
want to be physician portals. They are trying to get physician market
share first, and then add functionality later. Web MD and Healtheon are examples.

It's tough to tell who will win overall, and the best thing may be to
invest in all segments. As long as we cover all the bases....

Cheers,
Lee
