John,

"Couldn't Nissan refuse to sell their cars to GM at a preferential price to protect their future markets..."

Not sure what you are getting at with the Nissan thing exactly but I am sure Nissan would have no problem selling GM as many autos as they are willing to pay for. Doubt Boeing would refuse an order from Airbus for 200 777's either. IBM could never buy Microsoft's entire market because there is no quota system in place. It would be in Microsoft's interest to have Windows on as many PC's as possible anyways. Not selling Windows to IBM would hurt IBM in their PC hardware sales but how would it cripple their OS development? Seems like it would only encourage IBM to push its efforts for an alternative to Windows instead of just licensing it. Not much for Microsoft to gain by alienating IBM in this way.

Cheers,

Norm
