I think the stops are not visible to us (regular traders) but they are visible to brokerage house traders. I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong. I never use hard stops anyway . . . I'm too used to trading the Nasdaq stocks to ever feel comfortable using hard stops . . . I only use mental stops.

If you are trading a stock which is being manipulated (not talking about JDX now) what is the point of putting in stops only to have some scammy brokerage house run your stop and then reverse? Sounds like a dumb idea to me but then I never could get used to the cult mentality. I worked for Future Electronics and they did some psychological tests on me and fired me right afterwards because they said I could never be brainwashed. Sorry for going a little off topic.
