Mighty is not the right word - influential would be better. Deep pockets, etc. It's not a rule that consumers buy the better product. Timing, infrastructure, marketing, luck, these all make up the success of a product. Good products vaporize due to lack of capital. Bad products (8086) make it to market because of timing and money (IBM).

As for Buffett: Vulcan buys the future, Buffett buys the established - not comparable.
