For a guy, that only buys the new economy large cap leaders, you sure have missed out on the new economy virgins.

<<NEW YORK, Nov 23 (Reuters) - Nine companies came to market with initial public offerings on Tuesday, raising about $969 million, and all but one of the IPO's showed strong gains.

Not since July 29, have so many new issues hit the Street at once, according to Thomson Financial Securities Data. IPOs have raised $16.9 billion so far this year, the firm said.

The biggest percentage gainer of the new IPO's was Digital Impact Inc. <DIGI.O>, which rose 270 percent to 55-1/2 on the Nasdaq.

However, online retailer SmarterKids.com Inc. <SKDS.O> did not fare as well, finishing flat with its offering price of $14 a share. The company, which sells educational toys and software, raised $63 million.

Digital Impact, which offers Internet direct marketing services that enable communications with customers through e-mail, raised $68 million after pricing 4.5 million shares, or a 19 percent stake in the firm, at $15 a share.

Separately, Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to raise as much as $6.5 billion in an IPO, which would be the largest U.S. IPO in history.

Dutch firm MIH Ltd.'s <MIHL.O> <MIH.AS> unit OpenTV Corp. <OPTV.O> <OPTV.AS> closed up 42-3/4, or 214 percent, at 62-3/4 on the Nasdaq after its $150 million offering at $20 a share.

The company provides software for digital interactive television.

"They provide the tools and the middleware that interactive elements will run on. The idea is the enablement of interactive services," said Kevin Hause, an analyst at International Data Corp. "They are absolutely leaders in the space."

Deltathree.com Inc. <DDDC.O>, a provider of Internet Protocol telephony services, raised $90 million through its IPO, which priced at $15 a share. It is a unit of RSL Communications Inc. <RSLC.O>, which will hold a majority stake.

"This is a hotly valued sector ... one you don't want to bet against," said Irv DeGraw, research director at WorldFinanceNet.com. Its shares closed up 14 at 29 on the Nasdaq.

News Corp. Ltd.'s <NCP.AX> set-top box unit NDS Group Plc.'s <NNDS.O> American Depositary Receipts closed up 8 at 28 on the Nasdaq.

NDS, which offers systems to digital pay-television broadcasters that scramble signals to stop unauthorized access, raised $180 million through its ADR offering, which priced at $20.

TeleCorp PCS Inc. <TLCP.O>, the largest U.S. affiliate of AT&T Corp.'s <T.N> AT&T Wireless, rang up gains after its $20 a share IPO raised $184 million. Shares of the company, which offers PCS services in 18 different markets, closed up 13 at 33 on the Nasdaq.

"Wireless is such a fast-growing field and investors just can't get enough of it," said Steven Tuen, an analyst at IPO Value Monitor. "I think it will probably hold its gains."

Shares of GetThere.com Inc. <GTHR.O>, an online travel firm aimed at big purchasers of travel services, closed up 8-1/2 at 24-1/2 on the Nasdaq after pricing its IPO at $16 and raising $80 million.

Official Payments Corp. <OPAY.O>, which works with government entities to allow consumers to use their credit cards to pay such things as income taxes and fines for traffic violations, via the Internet or the phone, raised $75 million from its IPO.

Its shares closed up 7-1/2 at 22-1/2 on the Nasdaq after its $15 a share IPO.

Shares of telecommunications consultant Management Network Group Inc. <TMNG.O>, closed up 12-15/16 at 29-15/16 on the Nasdaq after its $17 a share IPO raised $78.5 million.

Online retailer SmarterKids.com Inc. <SKDS.O> was the day's only debut to close flat. Shares of the company, which sells educational toys and software closed at the offering price of $14. The offering raised $63 million.
