Toy-- thanks for your thoughts on marketing..

<<Someone correct me if I got that wrong, but thats the way I understood it. I would therefor conclude that the Slitz role has been filled - for now.>>

I would agree that the Slitz role appears to have been filled. I'm not so sure of "for now". This may be IT. Two younger and hungry fellows working Global and North American marketing.........seems good to me.

<<As we all know, the Novell Marketing soap-opera has been going on longer than most real TV soaps and I dont think it has ended yet. I think these two (Shirk/Adams) will add good spit and fire to the marketing>>

I have to disagree with you here. Probably in early-mid 1999 Eric realized Slitz wasn't the person for the next phases of Novell (Phase II and III). It took 3-4 months for him to complete the job of revamping the entire marketing end of Novell. Lets not forget the Whitman-Hart deal, hiring of numerous internal consultants and preparation of a VERY large marketing campaign starting in Jan00, along with the great results recently at COMDEX (and deals) probably related to the skills of Shirk and Adams.

Eric was extremely upfront and articulate in his conf. call like I've never heard him before. His vision is clear, his product pipeline is bursting full, and the marketing pathway will lead the way to a wonderful YR2000. I'm no network engineer, but I DO understand that in the conference call when Eric says one of his biggest priorities is taking the Zens from enterprise level to the internet (dealing with firewall issues, etc.), it WILL happen, and HEADS WILL TURN. If anyone understands the vision of where networks and the internet is going, it's Eric Schmidt. My money is completely on him "and" the team he's putting together.

IMHO, time to get onboard this ship because over the next 3-6 months its going to really RIP. Cisco has become "KING of the ROUTER" and Novell will become "KING OF eDirectories"

Best regards up north, QuadK
